Nineteen civil society organisations in Nigeria (CSOs) have written a petition to the National Committee Against Torture (NCAT), demanding the immediate closure of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command, otherwise known as Tiger Base Police, over systemic torture, killings, and illegal detentions. It copied the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Justice, Inspector General of Police, Police Service Commission, and National Human Rights Commission.

The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested the most wanted, vicious, notorious hired killer and head of the killers’ gang in the history of Lagos State, Wasiu Akinwade alias Olori Eso, who has been terrorising communities for over 15 years. The spokesman of the Command and a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Friday.
