LANCASTER — Antelope Valley Union High School District’s governing board approved the renewal charter petition for the Academies of the Antelope Valley dependent charter school that will extend the school’s charter term for another five years. The renewal assures the continued operation of SOAR and Knight preparatory academies and the Virtual Academy through June 30. The board voted 4-0 Thursday night, with trustee Rosemary Mann absent.

Stadium lands new parking agreement

LANCASTER — The AV Alta Football Club is 2-0 at Lancaster Municipal Stadium, and fans may find parking for home games easier thanks to an agreement between the city and Antelope Valley Soccer LLC. The City Council on April 8 approved an agreement with AV Soccer LLC good for up to three years for the use of city-owned parcels around the stadium for parking. There was no prior discussion, as the item was part of the consent calendar.

LANCASTER — Antelope Valley Community College District’s governing board abolished three confidential, management, supervisor and administrator positions and nine vacant classified positions at Monday’s meeting. The confidential, management, supervisor and administrator, or CMSA, positions abolished were the general counsel, paralegal/legal assistant and project supervisor, first-year experience/second-year experience. The project supervisor is the only position currently occupied.

LAKE LOS ANGELES — Members of the new Lake Los Angeles Town Council stood with their right hands raised Monday night and took the oath of office as administered by Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. The ceremony was conducted in front of an audience of about 100 people in the Lake Los Angeles Community Gymnasium at Stephen Sorensen Park. Barger noted the Antelope Valley’s rural town councils formed more than 30 years ago in response to rapid growth and change in the area.

Acton staff get 2% raise

ACTON — Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District classified employees will get a 2% salary increase and a 2.5% one-time salary bonus under a tentative agreement unanimously approved Thursday by the district’s governing board. The agreement covers July 1, 2024 through June 30. The total cost of the agreement is $234,225 in the first year, $100,270 in the second year and $102,275 in the third year, according to the agreement.
