    WEST POINT — The West Point Clay County Arts Council is kicking off the year with a new exhibit of artwork by Boone Antonio Lairy at the Louise Campbell Center for the Arts on Sunday at 2 p.m. Lairy will give a short gallery talk at 2:15 p.m. and a reception will follow. “I am from Pheba… where I took up the love for nature,” said Lairy. “I have been painting landscapes, horse portraits and different abstracts since 2011.

    Until a few days ago, a “big creator” on TikTok with almost four million followers was my “mutual.” That’s TikTok slang for we followed each other’s accounts and occasionally exchanged messages. About a week ago, they messaged me that they were suffering terribly because “haters” were calling them an antisemite or, alternatively, an Islamophobe. I was confused.

    It will be hard to do, deactivating my TikTok account later today. I’ve had it for three years and had over 460K followers. My life partner, Gidon Lev, and I used the app to share Holocaust education and Gidon’s message of hope. On TikTok, we felt empowered and valued. We touched the lives of millions of young people. Gidon had “fans” worldwide who left millions of heart emojis and dueted his TikToks while they cried or smiled with joy. Gidon was most beloved. He was a fixture.
