Kirk Lane Nursing Home transformed a previous derelict site in Livingston Village - and now, three years later, it has been named a winner at a prestigious industry awards ceremony. The home beat off strong competition to be crowned Regional Care Home of the Year Scotland 2024 at the Caring UK Awards on 5th December.

It takes more than love and commitment to care for an aging parent or family member. Any family caregiver can tell you that it also takes money. At first, you might not notice the incidental costs of the gasoline that gets you to and from their doctor appointments or the prescriptions you’re paying for. But as their needs intensify, so does the cost of caring for them. An AARP study found that the average family caregiver spends over $7,200 a year to provide care.

“Facts don’t matter.”With this provocative statement, Eleanor Pardini grabs the attention of students in her science communication course. Pardini designed “Beyond the Evidence” after wrestling with this question: Why do facts about topics such as climate change and vaccines spark vastly different reactions among groups of people? At the same time, she noticed that her natural science students lacked knowledge that could make them better communicators.
