    At the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai, the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Alliance unveiled the first iteration of a groundbreaking initiative for rights-based climate action, the Right Here, Right Now  Human Rights Climate Commitments (HRCC). The rights-based commitments, developed in collaboration with UN Human Rights (UNHR), are based on the specific human rights obligations and responsibilities of states and other actors.

    CU Boulder researchers attracted a record $684.2 million in fiscal year 2022–23 for studies that, among other things, elevate quantum science in Colorado, solve mysteries about the sun, and provide even better data on sea ice, ice sheets, glaciers and more. The newly released sponsored research funding numbers reflect a 4% increase over the prior year.

    When a science writer visits a brewery, they ask a lot of astute chemistry questions. When a science writer meets an astronaut, they ask a propulsion question (and yes, get a selfie). When they hike with a scientist, there are lots of questions about geology, flora and fauna in the Rockies. A tour at Sanitas Brewing, a social hour at a planetarium and a geology hike at Chautauqua Park were among the dozens of tours, panel discussions and lectures that took place Oct. 6–10 at SciWriters 2023.

    With the Flatirons as a stunning backdrop to the CASE classroom, students in the course Introduction to Western American Studies discuss and dissect the idea of “western expansion” by connecting federal policies and cultural imagination. By the end of class, they learn that one of the boundary lines created by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 literally runs right outside their door in the form of Baseline Road in Boulder.
