The Byron Bay Chamber of Commerce wants to protect the use of the Byron Bay brand, but a trademark lawyer says that can be difficult.

    New South Wales Health intends to cover up murals painted by convicted murderer and rapist Leonard Lawson on the walls of the old Grafton Gaol. The department says the works are considered "triggering" for healthcare staff who will move into the renovated former jail. The local historical society believes the artwork is valuable and should not be hidden from the community. The artwork of a killer and rapist is set to be covered over after being deemed too "triggering" for health staff to see.

    When Northern Rivers residents were forced to live in tents after the floods, a new disaster solution was born — held together by cardboard. The idea for cheap, renewable, quick-fix temporary housing arose after the 2019/20 bushfires and the 2022 floods. "We're still trying to recover from the 2022 floods and one of the biggest issues at that time was a lack of potential housing and shelter," Professor Andrew Rose from Southern Cross University said.
