There's a new diner-style family restaurant in Tyrone, and customers from near and far have been pouring in. The fulfillment of a dream, Jamie Ross is thrilled to open Jamie's Diner at 1302 Pennsylvania Ave. The turnover officially happened on Thursday, May 1. Ross is a familiar, friendly face at the new establishment as she worked as a waitress there for the past seven years. Ross eventually helped the former 20-year owner of D'Ottavio's Italian House, Frank D'Ottavio to run the business.

A Bass Fishing Team from Tyrone Christian Academy and also a team from the Tyrone Club fished at the high school division of the state competition as a part of the PA BASS Nation School Program. The teams competed at Mosquito Lake in Ohio over the weekend for the PA Bass Nation High School State Championships. Two local two-man teams competed on Saturday and Sunday. Captain for the Tyrone Junior Bassers is Chad Weaver and Captain for Tyrone Christian Academy Fishing Club is Andy DeArmitt.

Landon Robert Fagan, 21 of Altoona, is charged with a felony for kidnapping, misdemeanors for unlawful restraint, terroristic threats (two counts), stalking, false imprisonment, simple assault, reckless endangerment, with summary counts for harassment and disorderly conduct after he allegedly kidnapped a woman outside of DJ’s Cafe, at 2068 Columbia Ave., Tyrone over the weekend. The woman was eventually able to escape and call the police when Fagan stopped at a Sheetz.

The storm that rushed through the area Tuesday evening left longterm damage in its wake. From toppled sheds to downed trees to torn off roofs to lengthy power outages that power crews are still working to restore in some places, the recovery will take time. The weather event is being called a “serial derecho” by some weather centers. A derecho has the force of an inland hurricane. Others named the wind pattern a bow echo, with winds measured at 80 miles per hour in some areas.

Tyrone Chamber members gathered Thursday evening at the Elks for their annual spring dinner. This year marks the 109th annual dinner, full of connections for area business people, political candidates, and community leaders. Several of the Blair County judicial candidates were in attendance in order to network and talk to potential voters; however neither mayoral candidate made an appearance at the event.
