Hays Travel Independence Group members struggling to invest in their businesses due to financial constraints are being encouraged to put in funding bids to Hays Travel and not “suffer in silence”. Hays Travel bosses told IG agents at this year’s UK conference in Chester they could offer members a quick and easy way to secure interest free loans to fulfil growth plans, ease cash flow or try out new initiatives, rather than having to approach banks for funding.

Lincolnshire Co-operative has partnered with AS Training to train and develop staff as recruitment of agents with travel experience continues to prove a challenge. The 13-branch travel agency currently has four staff enrolled with the training company on a combination of level 3 travel consultant and level 4 sales executive courses. The staff are all new to the travel industry, with the flexible training intended to support their work in branches.

Hays Travel IG members have been urged to avoid becoming too heavily reliant on sales of discounted holidays in this year’s lates market. The message was delivered at the group’s UK conference amid fears of price-slashing during May and June by major operators ahead of the peak school holiday as a result of over-capacity in the market for this summer. Hays Travel Independence Group has outperformed all other group divisions in the last year and reported the start of a shift in its product mix with fewer short-haul holidays and more cruises sold. Chief operating officer Jonathon Woodall-Johnston told this year’s Hays Travel IG conference the group had performed “exceptionally well” in the 2024-25 financial year to date.
