The windows were dirty, so they had to go. They couldn't reasonably be smashed or painted with biblical scenes in stained glass. What else were the station managers meant to do? They covered them up, of course, with sticky paper. It's what I do when my kitchen is grimy. I wrap it up in masking tape.
