I’m attracted to the other person, they respect me, support me, we have common interests and values. However, sometimes, doubt creeps in. It’s a thought that is kind of scary to articulate: What if I'm missing out on something? If I were single, would my life be more interesting? More fun? More sexually exciting?

In meiner Beziehung stimmt eigentlich alles. Ich fühle mich zu der anderen Person hingezogen, sie respektiert mich, unterstützt mich, wir haben gemeinsame Werte und Interessen. Trotzdem kommen mir manchmal Zweifel – ein Gedanke, der noch unheimlicher ist, wenn man ihn laut ausspricht: Was ist, wenn ich etwas verpasse? Wäre mein Leben spannender, wenn ich Single wäre? Hätte ich mehr Spaß? Aufregenderen Sex? Würde ich zum Studieren oder Arbeiten woanders hinziehen? Vielleicht sogar ins Ausland?

Na de wittebroodsweken van een relatie gaan we ons vaak afvragen of we wel de juiste persoon hebben gekozen. Een psycholoog biedt antwoorden. Als ik over mijn relatie nadenk, heb ik er eigenlijk niks op aan te merken. Ik voel me tot mijn partner aangetrokken, ik word gerespecteerd en ondersteund, we hebben gemeenschappelijke interesses en waarden. Toch voel ik af en toe twijfels, een gedachte die niet makkelijk te verwoorden is. Wat als ik iets misloop?

A pensarci bene, non c’è niente che veramente non vada nella tua relazione. L’altra persona ti attrae, ti rispetta, ti sostiene e avete interessi e valori in comune. Eppure, a volte, si insinua un dubbio, un pensiero che fa quasi paura articolare chiaramente: e se mi stessi perdendo qualcosa? Se fossi single, la mia vita sarebbe più interessante? Più divertente? Più eccitante, anche sessualmente? Me ne andrei a studiare o a lavorare altrove, magari all’estero?
