1. IntroductionIn the United Kingdom (UK), there are currently 11 million pet dogs, with 29% of adults owning a dog [1]. The Animal Welfare Act [2] introduced a duty of care for all owners to meet their pet’s five welfare needs, and the PAW Report was launched in 2011 as the first overarching means of identifying, assessing, and monitoring the well-being of companion animals and how their needs are being met.
