NAHUNTA — The City of Nahunta approved amending its code to include fees for municipal court during its April monthly meeting. Amended during the Monday, April 7 meeting was Section 5113 to include an administrative fee, failure to appear fee and technology fee after a second reading. The amended version was read during the Monday, March council meeting. * The administrative fee of $50 shall be added to the total fine for each citation issued by the City of Nahunta Police Department.

The Nahunta City Council signed off on a proclamation for Unison in honor of Developmentally Disabled Awareness Month during Monday night’s March meeting. Belydia McCarthy of the Intellectual Development Disability Services and Caedon Johnson, the Apex and Marketing Coordinator, were on hand March 3 for the signing of the proclamation by Mayor Marty Lee. “We just appreciate the recognition and support of the council for individuals with intellectual development disabilities,” McCarthy said.
County votes in 90-day moratorium for permits related to construction

The Brantley County Commissioners approved a series of considerations involving construction during Thursday’s monthly meeting. Commissioners approved two resolutions March 6 with the first being imposing a temporary moratorium on the acceptance or approval of applications for certain permits related to construction and development. “It does not affect single family homes, including mobile homes,” said County Manager Joey Cason.

The Nahunta City Council heard from one of their residents concerning smells at Monday night’s meeting. Rodney Jacobs, who lives at 232 Willis Lane with his wife, has been dealing with “tremendous” smells. The odor has disrupted their lives and made it unbearable for them to live in their current conditions. Since 2019, Jacobs said he and his wife have lived right next to a septic tank. They have been coming to meeting after meeting over the years to let their voices be heard.

The Nahunta City Council recognized former President Jimmy Carter during its first meeting of 2025. The council voted to temporarily close City Hall from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, January 9 in observance of the National Day of Mourning for the former president, who died December 29, 2024 at the age of 100.
