[co-author: Uswah Naseem]On 3 April 2025, the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted to delay the implementation of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). The approval of the European Parliament, which followed the endorsement of the European Council on 26 March 2025, effectively stops the clock on, and delays, the implementation of a significant number of CSRD and CS3D obligations.

On 26 February 2025, the European Commission (the EC) adopted a new package of proposals aimed at simplifying the EU’s ESG reporting and compliance requirements. The EC published two separate proposals for directives to make changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) and the EU Taxonomy Regulation.
