High temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds remain in prime condition for the start of the wildfires. Many wildfires we have been monitoring continue to burn today. An Extreme Fire Weather warning is in effect for all of Minnesota, including Northland, until 9 pm tonight. We will likely see our three major fires (Jenkins Creek, House Camp, and Munger/Shaw fires) continue to spread through the evening.

Tonight, temperatures will again drop into the lower 30s and create some widespread frost around the region. Winds will shift in our favor and bring in another day like the one we saw on Tuesday. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s, including down by the lake. There is a small chance of seeing some light rain and maybe even hearing a rumble of thunder up north late Friday afternoon.

Temperature whiplash through the weekendTemperatures will continue to be cooler than average for at least one more day. Cooler air in place will stick around tonight and lead to widespread frost Thursday morning. Thursday will be no different than Wednesday with colder conditions near the lake and much warmer farther inland. Another shift in the winds on Friday should see a steady climb back into the upper 70s and lower 80s.

Today, our region is one of the warmest places in the entire country. The temperatures were over 20° above normal. At 3 pm today, temperatures in Canal Park were in the lower 80s. Twenty-four hours earlier, the temperatures were in the lower 40s. This was a 40° temperature swing. A quick-moving cold front will bring in a wind shift tonight. Cooler by the lake will again be the headlines. Wednesday will be like how we started the week.
