SCORE International will have two new figures leading technical inspection starting with the Baja 400 in September. Federico Montes Orozco became the first Latino technical director in the sanctioning body’s history last Friday, then appointed Israel Cruz Aguilar as technical director seven days later. Montes had spent the last seven years on SCORE’s tech staff under Dan Cornwell. He is the fourth person to hold the role after Bill Savage, Art Savedra, and Cornwell.
Rallye Breslau a Great Escape to history in Zagan

Rallye Breslau is the biggest cross-country rally and off-road race in Europe, taking place on two Polish military training areas in Żagań and Drawsko Pomorskie. Żagań in particular is a town rich with military history. Its base is the current home of the Polish 11th Armoured Cavalry Division, who shares it with NATO allies. When Poland was under German occupation during the Second World War, two POW camps were built: Stalag VIII-C, for all Allied prisoners, and the nearby Stalag Luft III.
SPEED UTV bringing production to Ensenada

SPEED UTV is setting up shop closer to home as the Robby Gordon-led UTV manufacturer now has a production facility in Ensenada, Baja California. While Gordon’s team is in the United States (headquartered in Concord, North Carolina), manufacturing the UTVs has mainly been in Vietnam. Ensenada is a hotbed for desert racing where series like SCORE International and Record Off-road base their main offices. NORRA, which has a close partnership with Gordon and SPEED, also has operations in the city.
Yamaha introduces 70th Anniversary Edition bikes

With Yamaha celebrating its 70-year anniversary, the Japanese manufacturer has unveiled a series of 70th Anniversary Edition bikes to go with the standard 2026 model year lineup. They will become available starting October. Anniversary models will be released for the YZ125, YZ250, YZ250F, and YZ450F. The anniversary bikes sport a red-and-white livery, the color palette primarily used by Yamaha factory teams before switching to blue in 1998.
Mark Johnston to run 2026 Africa Eco Race solo

Mark Johnston is getting back into the rally world. The South African will enter the Baja Rally as a malle moto rider in September, then do the same for the 2026 Africa Eco Race next January. Johnston had planned to race the 2023 Dakar Rally but was sidelined by a broken back, which came not long after breaking his shoulder.
Was the inaugural NASCAR Cup race at Mexico a hit?

Despite all the fears about drug cartels and illegal immigrants, the NASCAR Cup Series seemed to have a fun weekend competing in Mexico for the first time. Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, best known for hosting the Mexico City Grand Prix and ePrix, welcomed the Cup Series on Sunday for the Viva México 250. Somehow, it seemed only fitting that the first international Cup points race since 1958 was also won by a non-American.
2026 RBI Sport schedule

RBI Sport will host the same four rallies in 2026 as they are this year. The itinerary begins with The ROCK Trophy in April followed by the Baja Europe in May, both new additions for 2025. Held in Romania, The ROCK Trophy is for the Extreme classes (heavy-duty vehicles going through Ultra4-style courses). Baja Europe was revived for 2025 after being held for the first and then-only time in 2019.
Dakarspeed sells International Scania LoneStar

Dakarspeed had one of the more unique trucks at the Dakar Rally, one that combines elements of an International LoneStar and a Scania. Five months after this year’s race, however, the team has sold it off. The truck is officially called an International Scania LoneStar. It features the nose from a LoneStar, one of the most prominent hauler lines in the United States until its discontinuation in 2024, combined with the engine of a Scania Euro 6.
Nikita Mazepin named Master of Sports of Russia

While Nikita Mazepin has only been in the discipline since 2022 and his number of starts can be counted on one hand, the Russian Ministry of Sport bestowed upon him the Master of Sports title for his achievements in rally raid. He received the honor on May 29. Master of Sports of Russia, a carryover from the Soviet era, is a title given to those who meet various sporting criteria and is the highest honor that a Russian athlete could get.
Matthias Walkner to drive Mini in Ennstal-Classic

Since a catastrophic leg injury in December 2023 that’s left his riding career in doubt, Matthias Walkner has been trying his hand behind the wheel of race cars. In July, he’ll be a competitive driver for the first time when he enters the Ennstal-Classic in a 1972 Mini Cooper Rally. The 2018 Dakar Rally winner, Walkner was testing for the 2024 edition when he crashed and was thrown off his bike.
