It’s almost unbelievable that next fall will be the 20th anniversary of Green Day’s “American Idiot.”It’s equally unbelievable that the punk rock band that dominated my MP3 player’s measly dozen-song storage space in the early 2000s would perform at this year’s Grey Cup halftime show in Hamilton, Ont., where I now live after many years living in Toronto. The signs were there that I was slowly suffocating in my sleep. After years of being elbowed to move over to the other side of the bed or having to do the occasional midnight migration to the couch, my partner had finally reached her limit. The Blue Jays have had the best pitcher in the major leagues the past month or so — at least in terms of earned run average — and surprisingly it’s not their Cy Young-candidate Kevin Gausman. Yusei Kikuchi’s redemption story continues to impress this season after another lights-out performance in the Jays’ 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies at Rogers Centre on Tuesday night. The Japanese left-hander held the Phillies to four hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts over six solid innings.
