CORYDON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Orion Hill and Brayden Patterson led a strong showing in the field events as the Stars competed in the Stargazer Invitational at Corydon during high school track action on Friday night. The Stars finished third in the 16-team boys field with 81 points. Corydon won the team title with 127.5, while Evansville North totaled 104.

The Stars (7-3) opened the 24-team event with a 5-1 victory over Jasper, then suffered a 20-6 loss in five innings to Brownsburg in the second contest.

After a lightning storm and inclement weather forced the suspension of the match at Bedford North Lawrence on Thursday, the Cougars completed the mission on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over the Stars. While the Stars could not claim any sets on the five courts, they did battle back to win points. “Major progress,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said.

Scheduled to battle nemesis Bloomington South for a full 18 holes on Thursday at Otis Park, the Stars had to cut the day in half when lightning and incoming weather forced the players to scramble for cover. And since the event included a shotgun start, with assigned groups starting on different tees, all the competitors did not complete the same nine holes.
