Hart girls’ basketball coach Jerry Mike remembers the email vividly when he first found out about incoming freshman Morgan Mack. “I didn’t hear much about her,” Mike said. “I had a teacher send me an email and told me there’s a girl in her class that’s beating all the boys and maybe I should be interested.” Mack was that freshman, who didn’t participate in the team’s summer camp but approached the coach weeks into the school year about joining the program.

Saugus girls’ volleyball and West Ranch baseball hosted a fall signing day for a portion of their senior talent. Centurions senior Leila Ballard inked her national letter of intent to Northern Colorado on Wednesday. Over in Stevenson Ranch, four Wildcat baseball standouts also inked their commitments.

Head coaches and top athletes from all seven programs gathered on Saturday at Canyon High School for the Foothill League’s first ever boys’ basketball media day. With the season just a week away, all seven teams, including the reigning champion Saugus Centurions, felt Foothill League will be the most even it’s been in years. “I don’t know that there’s a better public school basketball league around,” said Golden Valley coach Chris Printz. “I’d like someone to name one if they can think of it.

College of the Canyons women’s volleyball brought home its eighth Western State Conference championship on Wednesday. The red-hot Cougars clinched the title after a 3-1 win over the visiting West LA College Wildcats, on sophomore night. Every COC sophomore and freshman got playing time in the 25-12, 25-12, 23-25, 25-11 victory, which marked eight straight for Canyons.

Hart High School boasted just a fraction of its college-bound athletic talent in Wednesday’s signing day event. A dozen Hawks inked their national letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the next level. Of the dozen, nine of the Hawks were seniors from the star-studded girls’ soccer team.
