Originally opened in 1998 after an idea struck Harrap in the middle of the night, the ride was a popular destination until a flood destroyed it in 2003. It reopened again in August 2019 - just months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit and New Zealand’s borders closed to the rest of the world. “I’m 80 years old and I might be fit and strong ... but that doesn’t mean I don’t get older,” Harrap told The Post.
