The federal government, through the Great Green Wall Project and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), have concluded arrangements to protect over one million people from the menace of desert encroachment worldwide. Director general, NAGGWP, Saleh Abubakar, who was represented by the director of Afforestation and Land Management Agency, Alhaji Ahmed Majidadi Bagudo disclosed this to Governor Nasir Idris when he led NAGGW-UNEP team to a courtesy call in Birnin Kebbi.

Senator Muhammed Adamu Aleiro, who represents Kebbi Central Senatorial Zone in the Senate, has distributed empowerment items to the people of his constituency so that they can become self-employed. The items include: 150 Keke-Napep, 114 motorcycles, 302 deep freezers, 750 grinding machines, 500 cartons of water pumps, 800 sewing machines and 3,400 bags of fertiliser.

No fewer than 30 people have been killed by armed bandits in Kebbi and Benue states. In Benue, 15 traders were killed by suspected herders in Ogwumogbo and Okpo’okpolo communities in the Agatu local government area. While in Kebbi, 15 farmers were killed while three others were injured during a bandit attack in Waje district in Danko/Wasagu local government area.

Three states, Kebbi, Kaduna and Bauchi in Northern Nigeria will benefit from the $10.7m Canadian Nutrition Project. The project, a Global Affairs Canada five-year initiative, aims to improve the health and nutrition status of women, adolescents, and children in the benefiting states. Chief Field Officer of the UNICEF Field Office, Sokoto, Mr Michael Juma, revealed this yesterday at a two-day state engagement meeting in Birnin Kebbi.

A total of 2,000 intending pilgrims have been airlifted from Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport Ambursa in Birnin Kebbi to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajji exercise. The pilgrims were on the first, second, third and fourth flights. Chairman of the Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA) in the state, Faruk Musa Enabo announced the development to newsmen at SABIA premises in Ambursa, outskirts of Birnin Kebbi metropolis in Kebbi State.
