Since the 1960s, Black families have settled in this slice of the San Gabriel Valley, building a community around churches, schools, restaurants and other small businesses. Some 81% of Black households in Altadena own homes, compared with 32% across Los Angeles County. Median home values for Altadena’s Black households were $961,000 in 2023, compared with $677,700 countywide.

Amgen Boosts Quarterly Dividend by Nearly 6%AMGNThe board of Amgen boosted its quarter dividend by almost 6%. The Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based biotechnology company said Tuesday that it raised its dividend to $2.38 per share for the first quarter, up from $2.25. The payout, equal to $9.52 a year, represents an annual yield of 3.45% based on Tuesday's closing price of $275.75. The dividend is payable on March 7 to shareholders of record at the close of business on Feb. 14.
