ISU finished the regular season with the Big Sky’s best record (34-15) and after adding three more wins at the Big Sky Championships, set a new program single-season wins record (37). But all that success did not yield the university’s first ever conference tournament crown, as the Bengals lost a winner-take-all game, 10-4, to Weber State, Saturday.

    EASTERN IDAHO — The Malad Dragons and Marsh Valley Eagles each dominated their respective super-regional tournaments, earning bids in next week’s state tournament. The Pocatello Thunder and Highland Rams saw their seasons come to an end, Saturday, following losses. 6A Highland never could get their offense going, after an extra-innings win Friday afternoon. The Rams scored just three runs Saturday, falling to the Lake City Timberwolves, 11-3. That after falling, 3-2, to Coeur d’Alene on Friday.

    MALAD CITY — Malad head baseball coach Jeff Snow likes to say that he doesn’t have a one-two pitcher tandem at the top of the rotation. Instead, he insists his top hurlers are more of a 1A-1B duo. Seniors Brycen Howe and Brady Showell lent credence to their coach’s claims Friday, dominating the 3A Play-In Series Southeast Qualifier at Malad City Park. Howe cruised to a shutout victory in game one of the super-regional tournament, striking out 10 Parma Panthers while allowing just three hits.

    MALAD CITY — The Malad Dragons opened their state regional play-in tournament with a solid victory behind a stout Brycen Howe. Howe got the ball for the five-seed Dragons (20-6) and proceeded to shove for 7 innings, striking out 10 while allowing just three hits and one walk as Malad came away with a 3-0 win over the nine-seed Parma Panthers (11-16) at Malad City Park, Friday.
