A lot of time travel stories are about trying to make things better, or at least trying to maintain the status quo. Many are about changing the past or fixing a mistake, or fighting important battles, catching criminals, or finding love across time.

    I go through phases in my TV watching. I seize onto a certain type of show and watch it compulsively until something else distracts me. I probably won’t ever subject you to the results of my Depressed and Divorced Nordic Detectives phase, although I might someday share the fruits of my Extravagantly Long Chinese Costume Dramas phase, or perhaps my Weird Time Travel Around the World phase.

Starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Brendan Gleeson. Let’s get one thing out of the way: All You Need Is Kill is a superior title. They shouldn’t have changed it.

    Save the Green Planet! (Korean: 지구를 지켜라!) (2003) Directed by Jang Joon-hwan. Written by Jang Joon-hwan. Starring Shin Ha-kyun and Baek Yoon-sik. While reading about this movie, I should have kept count of all different ways film critics found to say, “What the fuck did I just watch?”I can’t read Korean, so I’m relying on English-language reactions from mostly Western critics. I don’t know in detail what the reaction to the film was in Korea, but I think it was pretty positive.
