After repeated issues and prior warnings regarding the use of his client trust account, failure to pay taxes, failure to communicate with his clients and gambling issues, the Missouri Supreme Court approved the suspension of a Kansas City attorney. Byron W. Woehlecke has been disciplined by the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel in the past and was suspended by the court in 2018 for failing to pay taxes, according to the OCDC‘s brief.

A Kansas City firm obtained a $500,000 unanimous verdict for their client in a medical malpractice case. The matter stems from medical complications after gall bladder surgery where the doctor also determined he would remove the patient’s healthy appendix. The client, who was 16 at the time, was represented by M. Blake Heath and Brice B. Barnard of Heath Injury Law. Heath said his client had a history of stomach issues and in 2019 underwent testing at the behest of her family doctor.

The OCDC alleges Roy King Jr., who practices in several areas including municipal court law and is based in Kansas City, violated rules 4-1.15(a), 4-1.15(a)(5), 4-1.15(a)(7), 4-1.15(c), 4-1.15(f) and 4- 8.4(c). These rules govern trust accounts and the property of others, particularly clients.
