    For more than seven years, the family of Mr Shali Vavo, a resident of Mokowe in Lamu County, was forced to fight in court for the right to occupy their ancestral land. Mr Vavo says over six acres of their ancestral land at Mokowe had been grabbed by a tycoon who had colluded with local national government administrators. The family, which won the case last month, had alleged in court that the chief had approved the wrong documents.

    The King Fahd County Referral Hospital in Lamu has for two days been a theatre for bizarre drama involving a patient police say is a fugitive. On Thursday last week, a 25-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with stab wounds in several parts of his body. Mansuri Yusuf was said to have been waylaid by machete-wielding youths at Kinooni Area within Lamu Island. According to his family, Mr Yusuf was on his way to a burial when the attack happened. He was stabbed on the head, hands and legs.
