1 INTRODUCTION Healthcare research needs more planning and strategic direction. In the past, research topics have mainly been developed by ‘enlightened individuals’ rather than by what is needed in the health services or what might be identified as the greatest problem areas by stakeholders (Alomari et al., 2020). Nurses in particular continuously face many new challenges, and it is important to identify and set research agendas to address these challenges (Haber & LoBiondo-Wood, 2021).
