Crete’s chairman of Planning and Zoning has been named village clerk to fill the vacancy left with the retirement of Deborah Bachert. Karen Tellef was named to the post and sworn into office during the June 9 board meeting. She was expected to resign from the Planning and Zoning Commission immediately to avoid a conflict of interest. Bachert opted not to seek re-election as clerk after serving multiple terms in the post.

You can find it at Dolomiti, the newest eatery – ”an Italian gem in downtown Peotone.”Right now, 100 percent of the customer reviews are giving it a five-star rating. All of them praise the fresh ingredients, authenticity of the Italian combinations, and great service from the Protti family staff. “It is a family run business,” owner Andrea Protti emphasized.

After two years of meetings and discussions, Monee officials are moving ahead with plans for a new police department. The current building at 5357 W. Main Street was built 68 years ago and is no longer adequate for MPD’s needs. During the May 28 meeting, the village board heard recommendations that will get the process started.

Monee Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics successfully resuscitated a village resident who had collapsed and was in need of immediate care. That’s not really news for MFPD, as their crews actually have done that four times in just two years. But the five-member crew and three Monee patrol officers still deserved some recognition, not to mention bragging rights. Zoll Medical Corporation agreed, presenting them with life saving awards and Challenge Coins.
