After two years of meetings and discussions, Monee officials are moving ahead with plans for a new police department. The current building at 5357 W. Main Street was built 68 years ago and is no longer adequate for MPD’s needs. During the May 28 meeting, the village board heard recommendations that will get the process started.

Monee Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics successfully resuscitated a village resident who had collapsed and was in need of immediate care. That’s not really news for MFPD, as their crews actually have done that four times in just two years. But the five-member crew and three Monee patrol officers still deserved some recognition, not to mention bragging rights. Zoll Medical Corporation agreed, presenting them with life saving awards and Challenge Coins.

. A ceremonial bell rang during the Monee Memorial Day ceremony and honored the estimated 2.6 million Americans who have perished in war-related deaths since 1775. “For it is for them that this honor is truly for,” said Monee American Legion Commander David Batzek.

Monee officials have tabled a pair of ordinances that have been in the works for a while, pending additional clarification. During their May 14 meeting, the board opted to put the Bring Your Own Bottle and the grocery tax ordinances on hold after attorney Larry Gryczewski indicated they weren’t quite ready for board action.

By Karen HaaveLaw Enforcement Appreciation Day in Monee was launched five years ago in an effort to give local police officers a boost in morale. Apparently the event, hosted by Tracey and John Henson, has achieved its goal each year. Just ask the guys at Monee PD. “Once again, Trustee John Henson and his wife, Tracy, have gone above and beyond with their support for law enforcement and especially Monee PD,” Chief Scott Koerner said.
