The Georgina Spring Fling promotes itself as fast and flat and on the beautiful shores of Lake Simcoe, and having run the Half-Marathon race this year on Sunday, May 4, I discovered first-hand that it indeed ticks all of those boxes. It’s close enough to Toronto that Torontonians can drive up to Georgina the morning of (it took us just over an hour from downtown) and we were blessed with sunny, crisp weather for race day (the temperature was about 5 Celsius when the race started).

A lot has changed in Carley Fortune’s world since she sat down to write her first novel, Every Summer After, in 2020. Much of it was written on a Muskoka chair overlooking the lake in Barry’s Bay, Ont., where the story is set. She wrote her second book, Meet Me at the Lake, entirely on her bed back in Toronto. Her husband was home with their second baby and the bedroom door was the only one that closed.
