November 8, 2023 Climate change sucks. We all know that. What we don’t all know is how it will directly impact our lives within the next few years, and how we can work together to mitigate it. This hole in our knowledge leaves us feeling helpless in the face of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes and the wildfires that ravaged Canada over the summer. Worse still, it creates apathy.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) hosted Fordham’s very first pride parade. For a few hours, campus became awash with signs proclaiming the right to love, flags with every color of the rainbow and loud music booming through campus. The parade started beside the Lombardi Fieldhouse, winding past Hughes Hall, Cunniffe House and Dealy Hall to end right in front of the McShane Campus Center.

On Oct. 19, Fordham Dance Marathon (FDM) held their second annual Mr. Fordham pageant in Fordham Prep’s Leonard Theatre. Created last year, the Mr. Fordham pageant raised $11,368 for the B+ Positive foundation, with the winner, Jonathan Eng, FCRH ’23, raising $4,296. As a result of last year’s success, FDM brought the event back, inviting students all over campus to apply for the chance of winning the coveted title.

On the bright, sunny days that mark the beginning of the school year, students flock to Edward’s Parade — that green expanse that sits squarely in the center of campus. As classes end, the green becomes alive with students playing spikeball, throwing frisbees, listening to music and eating. Of course, that last activity prompts the average picnic-goer to debate what on earth they are going to bring to their Eddie’s escapade.

CultureFeature Kari White, Culture EditorOn March 12, Rose Hill’s mock trial team, “Mocky Horror Picture Show,” won a second-place bid at New Rochelle’s Opening Round Championships (ORC), enabling them to compete in the final round of the American Mock Trial Association’s national competition. While 600 teams spend the year competing at invitationals and in regional competitions, only a minority of those teams win a bid to the ORCs. Only 48 of those teams manage to move on to nationals.
