Lady Gaga has issued a message after surprising millions of people watching the Olympic Games opening ceremony at home with a performance of a lifetime. Taking to Instagram after her extravagant show on the banks of the River Seine, the superstar explained she "always felt a very special connection" with French people and music, and wanted to honour that in her performance. And, indeed, she did the second she emerged from a plume of pink feathers at the bottom of a golden staircase.

Kensington Palace confirmed Catherine's appearance at the event, which will mark her second public appearance since announcing she would be undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer.
