Royal fans are going to get a tiara moment sooner than expected with the announcement today of a French state visit. King Charles will welcome French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron to Buckingham Palace in July. It will be the first State Visit to the UK from France since President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni in 2008, who were guests of Queen Elizabeth II.

There were a raft of royals and politicians inside Westminster Abbey on Thursday for the Service of Thanksgiving to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. But despite all the famous faces, it was 10-year-old Alexander Churchill, dressed in a suit and tie, who stole the show. The great-great-grandson of Winston Churchill addressed the congregation, exactly 80 years after his famous ancestor told the nation World War II had ended.
