Paige Hadley ought to be a household name. Consider the evidence: the netball player, who is co-captain of her team the Sydney Swifts, also plays for the Australian Diamonds, who are currently the number-one netball side in the world. Earlier this year, at the Netball Nations Cup (which the Diamonds won), she was named player of the series. Yet while netball is Australia’s most popular team sport for women, with more than a million players nationwide, the disconnect remains.

Seven years ago, there wasn’t a national rugby league competition for women. When the NRLW arrived a year later, in 2018, only four teams participated. Next month, when the new season of the NRLW kicks off, there will be 10 female teams competing. The growth comes off the back of this year’s historic women’s State of Origin, in which the NSW and Queensland teams will play an inaugural third match, just as their male counterparts do.

The picture painted on Mother’s Day cards of an idyllic mother/daughter bond has never rung true for Ellie Gonsalves. After years of enduring a relationship that she says was based on lies and manipulation, the Gold Coast-based model and influencer chose to cut ties with her mother when her father passed away 10 years ago. “Mother’s Day is not something I celebrate,” she tells Stellar. “It’s just a really unhelpful reminder of what I don’t have with my own mother.
