    Three different forms of practices are expected to take part in the burial of distinguished historian Prof Bethwell Allan Ogot at his home in Umiru village, Gem Yala, Siaya County. Prof Ogot will be buried on Saturday February 22 in a ceremony expected to be attended by many dignitaries from across the country and continent. On Friday, a requiem mass for the fallen historian was held at St Paul’s Anglican Church of Kenya in Yala after the body arrived at around noon.

    Opposition leader Raila Odinga has asked his Nyanza political bedrock to remain united irrespective of whether or not he succeeds in his bid to chair the African Union Commission. In the race to be decided in February, Mr Odinga is running for the seat against Djibouti’s foreign minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and former Madagascar's foreign minister Richard James Randriamandrato.    One of these candidates will replace Moussa Faki Mahamat at the helm of the AUC administrative arm.

    All students who graduated from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology on October 18 will be re-examined before receiving their certificates, the university senate has announced. In a press release posted on its official X account, the University Senate acknowledged irregularities in the preliminary graduation list, which were identified and addressed before the event.

    The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into alleged irregular award of degrees at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST). According to EACC, at least 200 students, majorly from the Department of Education bribed some six university officials to avoid sitting supplementary examinations and in order to be on the graduation list.

    The anti-graft agency is investigating 18 public universities over various offences including theft of public funds, unethical conduct and academic fraud. Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) spokesperson Erick Ngumbi said that investigations are at different stages although he did not give details of the public universities on the radar of the agency.
