Hong Kong’s Temple Chambers has bolstered its offering by adding the founding member of Singapore’s Duxton Hill Chambers, Toby Landau KC, to its set. Landau, a barrister and international arbitrator, joins Temple Chambers whilst continuing to serve as counsel in Singapore as well as London, where he took silk in 2008 and has been practising since 1994, according to a statement.

Indian law firms JSA Advocates and Solicitors, AZB & Partners and S&R Associates are advising on Tokyo-headquartered Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation’s (SMBC’s) acquisition of a $1.6 billion stake in Mumbai-based private sector Yes Bank. The transaction, the largest cross-border investment in the Indian banking sector, sees SMBC take over a 20% stake in Yes Bank and become its largest shareholder, according to a JSA statement.

Singapore has signed a trade agreement with the European Union (EU), called the EU-Singapore Digital Trade Agreement, as shifting global trade drives nations to form bilateral arrangements. The agreement—negotiations for which began in July 2023— has been signed by Maroš Šefčovič, the EU’s commissioner for trade and economic security, and Singapore’s trade relations minister Grace Fu.

India’s Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has established a research platform with Haryana-based O.P. Jindal Global University, as the growth of the country’s digital economy demands increased ethical, legal, and policy regulation for artificial intelligence use. The research centre, called the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation, is India’s first establishment focused on the “intersection of artificial intelligence, law, policy and regulation”, the firm said.
