A talented artist and Aitkin resident, Stephanie Mirocha is also an award-winning illustrator and former graphic designer/media artist for the University of Minnesota. In 2012 she was selected as the “American Artist in Poland” by the Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota (PACIM).

Sometimes when people read the opinion pieces they take it as factual information. That is why we do our best to have writers source information included in their letter or column. The Aitkin City Council and Aitkin Mayor Gary Tibbitts set the date of Aitkin’s Arbor Day celebration at the council meeting held April 21. Council members present were Justin Cartie and Chris Dotzler. Plant trees for a greener city, the city of Aitkin Arbor Day is Wednesday, May 7. Residents are encouraged to join city employees and members of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources at 1 p.m. at Tibbetts Trails and Park to participate in planting four varieties of 23 trees.

Spring is here and with nicer weather comes more people. Not only are more residents out and about, tourists are returning. After being cooped up the past few cold months, people are out enjoying the fresh air, taking walks, riding bikes and simply exploring. The National Safety Council said tens of thousands of crashes occur in parking lots and garage structures annually, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
