The life sim genre is plagued by a major flaw, if you ask me; there’s a ‘don't fix what isn't broken' mentality. What you end up with is hundreds of titles that somewhat feel the same, that simply transport the genre’s tried and tested mechanics to a new setting. It’s why so many life sims fail to secure longevity. You can’t dethrone the titans of the genre if you don’t innovate and build upon what they offer.

I so very deeply adore The Last of Us and it’s with that in mind that I was somewhat dreading the arrival of the season two finale of HBO’s TV adaptation. With filming on season three not expected to commence until next year, it’s likely going to be a long while before the show - or franchise as a whole, for that matter - returns to us, and I wasn’t exactly feeling ready to say a temporary goodbye to these characters that I love so much.

Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel sounds as if it’s set to be a whole lot larger than its predecessor. It’s been let slip that the highly anticipated follow-up will allow us to explore not one, but two cities. Yes, of course, one of those is the returning Night City, although it should look a tad different this time around as it’s now most likely under the rule of Millitech. Alongside that though, we’ll seemingly get to explore a version of Chicago - or at least a Chicago-esque locale.

It’s Sunday, the most languid day of the week. It’s with that in mind that I hope you’re taking it easy today; venturing out on a walk, sitting in the sun with a good book, or perhaps catching up on your gaming backlog. If it is gaming time you’re squeezing in, I have a little recommendation that’s well worth checking out. Shroom and Gloom is an upcoming roguelike deck-builder that’s recently launched a free demo over on Steam, and it’s one that’s garnered rave reviews from players.

Harry Potter fans have been treated to several decent video game adaptations over the years. Hogwarts Legacy is, of course, the biggest and most recent success, but I also have fond memories of the LEGO Harry Potter entries and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on the PlayStation 1. It’s with that in mind that I say it’s hardly as if the fandom has been starved for content. That being said, news of a particular cancelled game has come as a major disappointment.
