I joined Morningstar's editorial team as a data journalist in Hong Kong in 2021. At that time, Hong Kong stocks had just touched recent highs. The Hang Seng Index closed at above 29,106 on my first day and it ended 2023 at 17,047. These three years of torrid slumps and market events felt much longer than other three-year periods I can remember – but that’s probably my recency bias speaking.
