The holiday season can be fraught for people who are grieving, whether it’s their first Christmas without a loved one or the tenth. Any movie, song, decoration and tradition is a potential trigger. It can be a time of extreme loneliness—when the comfort of a friend or family member is needed most. But what to say to someone who’s grieving? How can we truly be a help? The fear of doing the wrong thing can be paralyzing. So we don’t call or visit, then feel guilty.

HARRISBURG — Eugene DePasquale has emerged victorious from a competitive, five-way Democratic primary for Pennsylvania attorney general, while party-endorsed candidate Dave Sunday won the two-man contest for the Republican nomination. The Associated Press called the race for DePasquale at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Unofficial results show DePasquale with 39% of the vote. The race for Sunday was called at 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Laura Hepburn since our time together at North Kirkwood Middle School. Over the years, I’ve witnessed her dedication to the district. Laura involved herself early on as the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center PTO president and on the Prop S campaign. I knew from her posts, comments and responses that Laura was going above the scope of the committee and really educating herself on the needs of the district as a whole.
