Tokyo-based Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has secured a dual-fuel VLCC chartering contract and the vessel is to be built by Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS). MOL has order a new LNG-fuelled VLCC to sail under a long-term time charter contract with Idemitsu Tanker. It will be the first dual-fuel VLCC to be chartered to a Japanese oil company with delivery slated for 2027. “MOL aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

China continued to record strong growth of ship exports in April even as new orders come under pressure from US port fees and a volatile trading environment. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China exported 807 ships in April, a year-on-year increase of 72.4%, with the export value reaching RMB40.95 billion ($5.69 billion), up 36.9% year-on-year. From January to April, the total export volume reached 2,350 ships, up 33.1% compared to the same period last year.
