Dr. Alma Littles, dean of the Florida State University College of Medicine, was elected vice president of the Florida Medical Association (FMA) at its Aug. 2-4 annual meeting in Orlando. The FMA is a professional organization representing more than 25,000 members on issues of legislation and regulatory affairs, medical economics and education, public health and ethical and legal issues. Prior to being elected as vice president, Littles served two years as FMA secretary.

A Florida State University researcher is being honored by the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) for her work in developing better protective clothing for first responders and others in fields with unique clothing needs. Meredith McQuerry, the Carol E. Avery Associate Professor of Retail Entrepreneurship, will be honored at the ITAA annual conference in Long Beach, California, in November with the ITAA Mid-Career Excellence Award.

United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra has invited Florida State University College of Nursing Dean Jing Wang to serve on the agency’s National Advisory Council for Nursing Research (NACNR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Per the NACNR charter, the council advises the secretary and the director of the National Institute of Nursing Research at NIH. “I am honored to be part of the work of this council,” Wang said.

Four Florida State University researchers are helping lead the way in developing sustainable solutions to challenges facing the global community, thanks to support from the Office of the President’s Sustainability and Climate Solutions seed grant investment. Last fall, FSU President Richard McCullough awarded nearly $600,000 to four teams tackling research projects that address long-term societal well-being, environmental health and economic prosperity.
