Nazis, Islamic Antisemitism and the Middle East tells the story of an important but largely unknown chapter of Middle Eastern history. It focuses on the concerted drive by Nazi Germany to promote anti-Semitism in the region between 1937 and 1945. This was in line with the Nazi’s goal of annihilating the Jewish people not just in Europe but worldwide. From there Matthias Küntzel, a German political scientist and historian, draws a broader conclusion about anti-Semitism in the Middle East.

This can make it seem that college is the postsecondary Holy Grail. But not every high school senior applies to college. Many high school graduates are interested in skilled trades like carpentry, cosmetology or welding.

Dave Rich’s book on that thorniest of subjects, anti-Semitism, has already received many plaudits including glowing testimonials from several Anglo-Jewish luminaries. It does indeed merit much praise, but it should also be recognised that it also has serious weaknesses. Given that this is likely to be the definitive account of anti-Semitism in Britain for years to come it deserves a relatively lengthy examination. Its proposals to tackle the scourge also demand careful attention.

Everyday Hate’s clarity and engaging style make it an invaluable introduction to antisemitism; however, it also has plenty to offer readers who already possess a more confident grasp of the topic. The very precise full title – in particular, that phrase ‘built into’ – indicates a key strength of the book.
