1. Saints and CelebritiesTeaching religion in the US today offers a multitude of challenges, which vary greatly depending on the context in which one teaches. Some classrooms are very diversely religious, some more homogeneous. In my small college, the religiously unaffiliated are the largest group. My students may be “spiritual but not religious,” or they may have some beliefs about greater-than-human forces, but they lack religious literacy.
