    China announced new rules for its carbon market that will increase the number of free allowances that power plants can obtain, potentially cooling a rally that has sent permit prices to record levels. About 8 million tons’ worth of additional emission permits will be created, according to the London Stock Exchange Group’s review of a long-awaited carbon trading plan that was published by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment on Monday.

    Vietnamese American Daniel Nguyen founded Sông Cái Distillery in Vietnam in 2019 as a way to give back to his ancestral homeland. By producing the country’s first home-grown gin using botanicals from local farmers, Nguyen hoped to add value to their goods and increase their profits. Vietnam offered an attractive investment environment, a skilled workforce, a stable political system—and a rapidly expanding middle class that favored high-end alcohol.

    China pushed back against a US move to add tariffs on a wide range of Chinese imports, and vowed to take action against the decision. “China will take resolute measures to safeguard its own rights and interests,” the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. “The US should immediately correct its wrong actions and cancel the additional tariff measures against China,” it said.
