ARLINGTON, VA — The Capitals will go without Martin Fehervary for the remainder of the playoffs, announcing Tuesday morning that he was done for the season after undergoing surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee. Fehervary has been a key part of Washington’s blue line this season — though he lacks the offensive flash of a Jakob Chychrun or a John Carlson, he’s stepped up as one of Washington’s top defensive players.

WASHINGTON, DC — As he geared up for Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens, Alex Ovechkin had no doubts about his team’s drive to win. “As soon as the puck drops, everybody going to be in motivation mode and beast mode,” he said Saturday. That lack of late-season pressure arguably showed on the scoreboard as Washington dropped eight of its last 12 games to close out the regular season.

The Washington Capitals announced Saturday that they have recalled Ethan Bear from the AHL’s Hershey Bears ahead of their first-round series against the Montreal Canadiens. Bear’s call-up comes after the Caps played their regular-season finale with just five defensemen, sitting Martin Fehervary, John Carlson, and Matt Roy against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fehervary, who turned his ankle against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, did not practice with the team on Saturday.
