Ireton and Hawarden both hosted Memorial Day services on Monday. Ireton Memorial Day services were led by Ireton Bertram Post 276 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. The featured speaker for Ireton’s service was Pastor Michael Boothby with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. “It is not lost on me that I have the luxury, that my entire living is based on the fact that I can preach and believe in God,” Boothby said.

Hawarden emergency medical service departments hosted chamber coffee last Thursday at the Hawarden fire station. About 25 people gathered for the meeting and EMS served taverns, chips and cake to celebrate National EMS Week. Later that evening, Hawarden EMS hosted an open house where the public could stop up and meet those who serve on the squad and see the different equipment they use to help keep Hawarden and the surrounding communities safe.

The therapy team at Hawarden Regional Healthcare wants to give families easy access to expert insights about their child’s development. At 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, HRH will be offering a free screening day. Registration is not required. “Parents often have questions or concerns about how their child is progressing but can be unsure about developmental expectations or when they may benefit from extra support,” said speech-language pathologist Abby Halvorson.

Ireton Swimming Pool is set to open Monday, June 2. Susan Ten Napel will be pool manager for the season. Pool hours in Ireton will be 1-5 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m., Monday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. In Hawarden, pool manager Laura Mora said the opening date isn’t exactly locked in yet, but she is grateful the pool will be able to be open this summer despite the damage caused from the Big Sioux River flood in June.
