I promised myself that when I was a parent I’d never force my children to play any sport or musical instrument they didn’t want to play. However, I am a firm believer that every child should be given the gift of swimming and the gift of golf. Why golf? If your child can hit a ball and knows the basic fundamentals to enjoy a variation of the sport then you are giving them the gift of a lifetime amongst so many other skills. Swimming is life saving. Golf is life enhancing.

I hit a decent ball off the tee and as a result I often tee off further back than the forward tees. I want to land my ball and see it roll down the fairway. I don’t want to have to opt for a 7-iron off the tee as I often run out of fairway with my driver from forward tees. In my opinion, many forward tees are simply positioned in the wrong place for a long-hitting woman (and most are in the wrong position for a shorter hitter too, but that’s another story).

As the season warms up, many amateur golfers will ponder where it all went wrong last year… What was the worst part, what was unfair and why didn't things go their way? Reflecting on seasons gone by, or even your previous round, is all very well, and we can learn so much about what areas of our game needs improving. But often the art of letting go of the past and focusing on the present is what is really important if your golf is to improve.

Ernie Els is without question one of the game's best ball strikers of all time. You don't win four Major Championships without being a very strong iron player, but the South African was particularly good in this department - as clean a ball-striker as you could ever wish to see. Although we're all capable of striking one out of the middle, it's the consistency that most amateur golfers lack.

I’m a huge fan of up-cycling and utilising objects that you already own to help improve your game. There are plenty of household items that will help you hit it further and more consistently, as well as lower your score on the green. Here are some of my favourites. Sock It To ThemIf you are prone to an overswing then this sock drill will help. You may think it odd that a sock can improve your action, but it’s really effective in eliminating collapsed arms and engaging your core.
