Ceri is living with incurable cervical cancer after being misdiagnosed for years. Second-time mum Jess Edwards has been told she may have to give birth almost an hour's drive away. Some mums-to-be living in and around Bridgend are being forced to travel almost 13 times further to give birth as their local maternity unit closes for refurbishment. Maternity services at the Princess of Wales Hospital will be out of bounds for three months from September as the health board makes "urgent and essential" improvements.

A mother who had an emergency caesarean birth said her husband had to bring her pain relief from home after she was left for eight hours without it at a Swansea hospital. Heather Davies, from Loughor, also said she wasn't seen by a doctor for three days after giving birth at Singleton Hospital. The mum-of-one gave birth to her son Finley prematurely after eight rounds of IVF. She and her husband, Ceri, lost five babies during previous pregnancies before Finley arrived at 34 weeks.

A leading birth doctor is calling for more awareness of ‘gentle’ caesareans to help improve the experience of people giving birth in Wales. Gentle caesareans - sometimes referred to as ‘natural’ or ‘family-centred’ caesareans - aim to prioritise immediate skin-to-skin contact and delayed cord clamping. Families are also allowed to have the screen down in order to see the baby emerging from the womb, play their own music and take photos of the birth.

A mum-of-three whose unborn baby received a life-saving blood transfusion while he was still in the womb is encouraging more people to consider donating blood. Nate Davies and his mother Rebecca were diagnosed with rhesus disease, a rare and potentially deadly condition which sees the mother’s blood produce antibodies which attack the baby’s blood.
