For us, the captains usually just send out messages to the team and are in charge of a lot of communication between team and coaches. We also lead team meetings at meets and give out the “spirit stick” which is a tradition that we give out at every meet to the person who cheers the most. What about the courts are changing as part of the remodeling process? The courts have already been torn out completely. The asphalt is being replaced with post tension concrete. Walkways are in place between decks. A perimeter fence is being added to control the flow of fans and opposing teams. New fences around the actual courts and new gates. Lights will be added to the first 5 courts. How long will the courts be under construction? The goal is to have the courts done by August 1st.

Until rugby player and senior Aissatou Diatta was a junior, she played under Carmel Rugby coach Kelly Romano. However, halfway through her junior season, the team came under temporary new coaching staff, and now, in her senior season, they have a new, permanent coach. Many teams go through cycles with different coaches, including Indiana’s women’s basketball team, Indy Fever, which announced in November that they would be adopting a new coach, Stephanie White.

When senior Amanda Ailes first began thinking about college, she had never heard of Huntington University, the school she is now committed to for volleyball. Next year, Ailes will be one of the 183,500 student athletes competing at a Division III school according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Ailes said at first, she planned to attend IU like her older sister. However, her plans changed when she decided she wanted to continue playing volleyball in college.

As an avid Taylor Swift fan, when she announced her album at the 2024 Grammy awards, I was overjoyed. The Tortured Poets Department is the fourth new album she has released since I became a major fan, and like many others, I thought The Tortured Poets Department would be a return to the epic folk sounds of folklore and evermore, Swift’s eighth and ninth studio albums.

In light of the recent Indiana cell phone ban, many students and teachers alike are wondering about the benefits and drawbacks of the law. Many students argue they need to have their cell phones on them to communicate with parents, while the policymakers passed the law on the basis that limited cell-phone access greatly improves test scores. In this case, the policymakers are right; students’ test scores increased greatly when cell phones were collected.

The women’s lacrosse team is preparing to play Zionsville High School away at Zionsville on April 25 at 7 p.m.“[Zionsville has] historically been good. They have a really strong senior class, they also have a couple underclassmen that are, again, really good lacrosse players as well. They’re really fast, they’re very quick, good goalie play as well,” Head Coach Joshua Miller said. The team is also preparing for its playoffs, which are not yet scheduled.

Most of the teams in the Sectional have already peaked while we continue to improve. We will be ready for a nice tournament run,” Head Coach Rick Risinger said via email.
