A recent ConsumerX survey found 42.8% of consumers want retailers to be ecologically responsible, with 25% strongly agreeing.     London-founded fashion brand River Island has drafted in advisers from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to create a formal restructuring plan. River Island has nearly 230 stores across the UK, and employs approximately 5,500 people; it is not yet known how many stores will close under the proposed changes. The fashion brand, founded in 1948 by Bernard Lewis and his brothers, has avoided the move to pureplay that followed the demise of one-time rivals including Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Burtons.

    Amazon has pledged to tackle fake reviews and crack down on sellers using them to boost product ratings, following an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). According to the CMA, around 90% of UK consumers rely on reviews, with an estimated £23bn a year influenced by crowd-sourced information. Fake reviews have been explicitly banned, since April 2025.

    Co-op is set to introduce 100 Royal Mail lockers at its stores, with the first ones launching in summer, following a partnership between the two firms. The lockers are designed to add an additional convenient service for the community at Co-op stores, allowing people to drop off pre-labelled Royal Mail parcels and returns 24/7. Collection will also be available at the lockers soon.

    An investigation by consumer group Which? has found questionable and “dodgy” pricing tactics at SportsDirect.com, that it believes may be breaking the law. Which? is urging the the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate, after it discovered SportsDirect.com’s reference prices could be misleading. Researchers analysed the prices of 160 different products sold on the Sports Direct website and found examples where the saving suggested by the higher reference price did not appear genuine.
