EF-2 Tornado strikes central FL TV station, damages nearby homes

The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida confirmed an EF-2 tornado with winds up to 120 mph damaged homes and businesses, including a local TV station, in Seminole County on Monday morning. The circulation touched down at approximately 9:35 AM near the southeastern edge of Wekiwa Springs State Park where it produced mainly vegetative damage in the form of downed Oak and Pine trees, with peak winds of 80 to 90 mph.

Fox 4 is a proud sponsor of the 9th Annual Cape Coral Charity Car Show. 100% of the proceeds benefit the Cape Coral Caring Center, a food pantry that helps feed 5,000 local families each year. The event runs from 9am until 3pm at Mariner High School in Cape Coral on Saturday, February 22nd. To check out the 300 to 400 cars on display, parking is $5 and admission is free. Seeing smoke? A 1,000 acre controlled burn in Hendry County, east of Keri, is sending smoke westward into western Hendry county and eastern Lee county, including Lehigh Acres. The ecological burn is taking place in the Okaloacoochee Slough Wildlife Management Area just south of Keri Road in Hendry county. Winds out of the east are sending some of that smoke into parts of western Hendry county and eastern Lee county.

The National Weather Service in Tampa continues to survey tornado damage across Lee and Charlotte counties. Alongside the already-confirmed Matlacha tornado, two new tornadoes were added in Charlotte county: El Jobean and Babcock Wildlife Area. The most notable addition was the Fort Myers tornado has been confirmed to have traveled ACROSS the Caloosahatchee River into North Fort Myers, and was on the ground for upwards of 11 miles.
